Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

After breakfast, you will leave the rainforest behind and continue ascending towards the beautiful Shira Plateau. The trail gradually opens into heath and moorland, where the dense forest gives way to giant heathers, open grasslands and unique high-altitude vegetation.

Today's trek is relatively long as you cross the western slopes of Kilimanjaro and gradually gain altitude. Along the way, you will enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding landscape, with Mount Kibo becoming increasingly visible as you approach the Shira Plateau.

As you continue across this remarkable volcanic landscape, you will experience the vastness and beauty of one of Kilimanjaro's most impressive geographical features. Weather permitting, the views of the mountain's snow-capped summit provide wonderful photographic opportunities.

After approximately 7–9 hours of trekking, you will arrive at Shira 2 Camp (3,850m). Your mountain crew will welcome you with refreshments and a freshly prepared dinner. Rest well as you prepare for the next stage of your climb.

After breakfast, you will leave Shira 2 Camp and continue trekking eastwards across the spectacular alpine landscape towards Lava Tower. Today's route takes you through a semi-desert environment, with impressive views of Kilimanjaro's volcanic formations and rugged mountain terrain.

As you gradually ascend, you will reach Lava Tower (approximately 4,630m), one of the most recognizable landmarks on Mount Kilimanjaro. Here, you will stop for lunch and spend some time at higher altitude before beginning your descent towards Barranco Camp.

This climb-high, sleep-low approach is an important part of altitude acclimatization, helping your body gradually adjust to the increasing elevation.

After approximately 6–8 hours of trekking, you will descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley, arriving at Barranco Camp (3,960m). Surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery and the impressive Barranco Wall, this is one of the most picturesque campsites on the mountain.

After breakfast, your day begins with one of the most exciting sections of the Lemosho Route: climbing the famous Barranco Wall. Although the wall looks intimidating from the campsite, the ascent is manageable with careful footing and guidance from your experienced mountain crew.

As you make your way up the rocky slopes, you will enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding valleys, glaciers and the towering summit of Kilimanjaro. Reaching the top of the wall is a rewarding moment, offering excellent opportunities for photographs.

You will then continue along a beautiful trail of ridges and valleys towards Karanga Camp. Today's trek includes several short ascents and descents, with impressive views of the southern glaciers and the mountain's dramatic landscape.

After approximately 4–5 hours of trekking, you will arrive at Karanga Camp (4,035m). Your crew will prepare a warm meal while you relax and enjoy the mountain surroundings.

After breakfast, you will leave Karanga Camp and continue ascending towards Barafu Camp, your final base camp before attempting the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Today's trail passes through a dry alpine desert characterized by rocky terrain, sparse vegetation and increasingly dramatic mountain scenery. Although the distance is relatively short, the altitude makes it important to maintain a slow and steady walking pace.

As you approach Barafu Camp (4,673m), you will enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding landscape, including the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. Upon arrival, your mountain crew will prepare lunch or an early dinner, depending on the schedule.

Your guide will provide a detailed briefing about the summit attempt, explaining the route, expected weather conditions and safety precautions. You will organize your warm clothing, headlamp, trekking poles and other essential equipment before enjoying an early dinner.

Try to get as much rest as possible, as your final ascent towards Uhuru Peak will begin around midnight.

Today is the most challenging and rewarding day of your Kilimanjaro adventure. Your summit attempt begins around midnight after a light snack and hot drinks. Equipped with warm clothing, headlamps and determination, you will begin the gradual but demanding ascent towards Stella Point (5,756m) on the crater rim.

The trail follows steep volcanic scree and rocky terrain, requiring patience, endurance and a slow, steady walking pace. Your experienced mountain guides will support and encourage you throughout this demanding climb.

As the first light of dawn appears over the African horizon, you will continue from Stella Point towards Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Reaching the famous summit sign is an extraordinary achievement, rewarding your determination with breathtaking views of the surrounding glaciers and the vast African landscape.

Take photographs, celebrate your accomplishment and enjoy this unforgettable moment on the Roof of Africa, weather and conditions permitting.

After celebrating at the summit, you will begin your descent towards Barafu Camp, where you will take a short break before continuing down to Mweka Camp (approximately 3,100m).

The descent can be physically demanding after the summit climb, but your guides will help you maintain a comfortable pace. Upon arrival at Mweka Camp, enjoy a well-deserved dinner and your final night on Mount Kilimanjaro.

The descent generally takes approximately 3–4 hours, depending on your walking pace and trail conditions. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, you will complete the official park checkout procedures and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate, depending on the highest point you successfully reached.
