About this experience

Discover the breathtaking beauty of Mount Kilimanjaro on this adventurous 6-day Lemosho Route climbing expedition. Approaching the mountain from its remote western side, this shorter itinerary takes you through lush rainforest, spectacular moorlands, the expansive Shira Plateau and dramatic alpine landscapes before reaching the highest point in Africa.

The journey combines some of Kilimanjaro's most spectacular scenery with a demanding trekking schedule designed for physically fit and experienced hikers. Along the way, you will explore the Shira Plateau, experience the famous Lava Tower acclimatization section, climb the legendary Barranco Wall and continue towards Barafu Camp for your final summit attempt.

With the support of our experienced mountain guides, professional porters and dedicated mountain crew, you will be guided through every stage of this extraordinary adventure. Your ultimate reward awaits at Uhuru Peak (5,895m), where you can celebrate reaching the Roof of Africa.

The six-day Lemosho Route is a challenging option with limited acclimatization time and is best suited to well-prepared trekkers with previous high-altitude experience. For a more gradual ascent, we recommend considering our seven- or eight-day Lemosho Route packages.

DAY 4

Barranco Camp to Barranco Wall to Barafu Camp (4,673m)

Today's adventure begins with the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting and memorable sections of the Kilimanjaro climb.

After breakfast, you will begin ascending the rocky wall, following your guide's instructions and carefully navigating the trail. Although the wall may appear intimidating from below, it is a non-technical scramble that can be completed with careful footing and support from your mountain crew.

At the top, you will be rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding valleys, glaciers and the towering summit of Kilimanjaro.

You will then continue towards Karanga Valley before taking the trail that connects to the upper southern slopes of the mountain. Unlike longer Lemosho itineraries, this six-day variation continues directly towards Barafu Camp without an overnight stop at Karanga.

This makes today's trek particularly demanding, with several hours of walking at high altitude.

Upon arrival at Barafu Camp (4,673m), your crew will prepare your meal while you rest and prepare for the final summit attempt. Your guide will provide a detailed briefing about the midnight ascent, weather conditions and essential safety procedures.

Organize your warm clothing, headlamp, trekking poles and other equipment before having an early dinner. Try to get some rest before the most challenging day of your adventure.

DAY 5

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Today is the ultimate challenge and the highlight of your Kilimanjaro climbing adventure.

Your summit attempt begins around midnight after a light snack and hot drinks. Equipped with warm clothing, headlamps and determination, you will begin the steep ascent towards Stella Point (5,756m) along the crater rim.

The trail passes through volcanic scree and rocky terrain, requiring endurance, patience and a slow, steady walking pace. Your experienced mountain guides will support and encourage you throughout this demanding climb.

As the first light of dawn appears over the African horizon, you will continue from Stella Point towards Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.

Reaching the famous summit sign is an extraordinary achievement. Celebrate your accomplishment, take memorable photographs and enjoy the breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro's glaciers and the vast African landscape, weather permitting.

After spending some time at the summit, you will begin your descent towards Barafu Camp, where you can take a short break before continuing down to Mweka Camp (approximately 3,100m).

The descent is physically demanding, particularly after the summit attempt, but your mountain guides will help you maintain a comfortable pace. Upon arrival at Mweka Camp, enjoy a freshly prepared dinner and a well-deserved night's rest.

The descent generally takes approximately 3–4 hours, depending on your walking pace and trail conditions.
